New Year's Eve at the Three Shires Inn

We are always excited at the prospect of hosting guests for our special New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Three Shires Inn.

But this year we are particularly keen to see in 2021 mainly because, like the rest of the world, we can’t wait to see the back of 2020! There are many polite epithets to describe the last year; “up and down”, “fluid”, “sub-optimal” and, of course, plenty of others we all know but can’t repeat!

However, there have still been things to smile about at the Three Shires Inn. Like many, we’ve been given more time to appreciate the landscape and natural world that surrounds us and, when you live in Little Langdale, this is definitely something to be very thankful for. We’ve been busy during the months we have been able to stay open and we are very grateful for all the support we’ve received from you.

So, as the year turns, we’re looking forward to seeing in the next 12 months in style as we hope for many more good things to come. This will involve hosting our usual New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Three Shires Inn, albeit with some minor modifications.

The evening will begin with a champagne reception in the bar, followed by a special gala dinner in our restaurant.

Our chef Scott has put together a delicious menu, with guests able to choose from the following:

To start

Saumon séché

(Cured salmon with puffed sesame rice, a sorrel gel and basil sorbet)

Butter brown pumpkin

(With goats’ cheese and a sage dust)

Pork Cheek

(Served with celeriac purée, poached apple dice and a lovage emulsion)

Main course

Magret de canard

(Duck Breast with rainbow chard, poached rhubarb and Crêpe beetroot, in a rich plum sauce)

Fillet of Dexter beef

(Braised short rib of beef, dauphinoise potatoes, shallot purée, celeriac purée, a lovage emulsion and a red wine jus)

Dessert

Pear Tarte

(Served with poached pear, burnt pear purée, and a Chantilly mousse)

Chocolate Soufflé

(With a dark chocolate tuile and chocolate and brandy crème anglaise)

Cheese and Biscuits

After dinner we will retire to the bar to put our guests’ knowledge to the test in our usual New Year’s Eve quiz. Of course, all of this will be done following all the relevant coronavirus guidelines at the same time as ensuring everyone has as much fun as possible. It may not have been the best of years, but let’s give 2020 a good send off!
