All across Cumbria, farmers, butchers, bakers and producers of all types offer the best in everything from lamb and beef to cheese, chutney and beer.

However, this isn’t the only place where you’ll find tasty ingredients. The woodlands, hedgerows and meadows offer their own produce in the form of leaves, mushrooms and nuts, which can all be used to make a wide variety of delicious recipes.

One of the things we love the most about running the Three Shires Inn is waking up to a beautiful sunrise in Little Langdale.

But no morning is complete without a good cup of tea or coffee and, for many years now, this has been taken care of by Dave and Gina Pennington and the team at Penningtons Coffee Roasters and Tea Merchants, in Kendal.

We’ve just passed that time of year when some of us voluntarily give up beer. Soft drinks and clear heads have been the order of the day for many during Dry January, as they turn their backs on the pleasures and pitfalls of a pint or two.

However, this doesn’t mean things are any less busy for Cumbria’s breweries. This is the time when they catch up on important maintenance and planning for the year ahead.

As freedom from lockdown seems to get closer each day, we can all be forgiven for allowing ourselves to indulge in a little bit of post-lockdown fantasising. We are always excited at the prospect of hosting guests for our special New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Three Shires Inn.
